Laboratory Safety Chemical Hygiene Training

Laboratory Safety / Chemical Hygiene Training is being offered Thursday February, 22nd at 2:00 PM in the Campus Services Build room 164 (CSB-164). You should attend this course if you work in a laboratory and have not previously attended safety training. Lab Managers, Graduate Assistants or anyone working under them should attend. This training is
required by OSHA so anyone working in a UNLV laboratory that does not have documented safety training could result in a violation and/or fine

This 1.75 hour course will cover various topics related to chemical hygiene and safety including:

· Laboratory Risk Assessments

· Control measures including administrative and engineering controls

· Selection of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment

· Major routes of entry into the body

· Categories of chemical hazards & how they affect the body

· Hazard determination methods including Material Safety Data Sheets

· Proper chemical storage techniques

· How to respond during an emergency situation involving chemicals

· Appropriate waste disposal techniques

This course is excellent initial training for new laboratory personnel or a good refresher for those who have not worked in laboratories for awhile and would like an update on UNLV policies and practices. This training can be utilized as documented safety training for your laboratory workers.
